There are a few things that you need to do to prepare for your Selection Day event. Please note that in order to maintain the confidentiality of our process, we only share our Selection Day Preparation Guide with candidates who have been invited to that stage of our process. The Selection Day preparation guide can be found in the e-mail inviting you to Selection Day.
Below is a checklist of items that you should complete in order to help you be successful:
Pre-read for the group activity:
You will participate in a group activity in which you will learn a new teaching skill. In order to get the most out of this activity, please read the pre-reading linked in your Selection Day Preparation Guide.
Prepare a Teaching Sample:
You will teach a five-minute lesson at your Selection Day event. Your lesson will be based on an objective that must be chosen from the list found in your Selection Day Preparation Guide. Your objective must align with the tentative subject area assignment you received when invited to Selection Day or Phone Interview. Candidates are not allowed to choose their own objectives.
What to Expect During Your Event:
We know that candidates perform better if they know what to expect during the Selection Day. Familiarize yourself with the Selection Day Preparation Guide so that you can plan in advance and feel prepared.
We encourage all candidates to print an extra copy of their Teaching Sample Planning Form and to bring this copy to the event. This can help our evaluators more easily access your planning form in the event that you are not able to upload your planning form to TeacherTrack.
You may also choose to print materials to support your lesson, but it is not required. You can assume that you will have access to a white board and dry erase markers at the event. You should not plan on using Powerpoint slides because you will not have access to a laptop or time to setup your laptop before your lesson. Remember to bring a pencil or pen for yourself.
