The NYC Department of Education subsidizes the cost of tuition (excluding books and materials) at all of its partner universities. Fellows are still responsible for the remaining portion of the degree, but this is not an upfront or out-of-pocket expense.
Currently, that remaining portion is $12,000. Once Fellows start teaching full-time in the fall, this amount will be deducted from each DOE paycheck in 44 consecutive, equal, installments.
Please Note:
- Immersion Subject Area Fellows will be responsible for additional coursework costs to complete content area requirements. The university will inform candidates of any additional costs.
- Fellows who join the Bronx cohort AND take a full-time position in the Bronx will be eligible for a $1,500 discount on the cost of the already subsidized tuition.
- Some Fellows may need to take additional coursework due to deficient liberal arts credits. Upon enrollment at your university, they will do a formal transcript review and determine if you are missing any prerequisite coursework for your master's degree. Because these credit requirements vary by university, we cannot estimate how much the cost of these credits will be. However, it is important to note that all of our universities are highly experienced in recommending cost-effective exemption exams and online courses that can fulfill these requirements.
