Congratulations on accepting your offer to join the NYC Teaching Fellows program!
The next step is to begin the fingerprinting process and receive your official Pre-Screening Notification email, commonly referred to as a "Nomination." To obtain a DOE Pre-Screening Notification, all Fellows must complete their Common Profile through the NYC Department of Education's Online Teacher Application. This website serves as an online platform where your personal information will be accessible to our enrollment team.
Important: At this stage, Fellows should ONLY complete the Common Profile.
Do NOT complete or submit a full teacher application and do NOT apply for teaching positions until you receive further instructions from the NYC Teaching Fellows program.
All Fellows must complete the Common Profile as soon as possible to allow our team to begin the nomination and background clearance process. You must successfully pass both the nomination and background check to start training with the program. Please follow the specific instructions provided in this article when completing the Common Profile. Failing to do so may delay your nomination process or prevent you from starting training.
CREATING AN ACCOUNT:
The first step toward completing the Common Profile is to visit the application website and click on the“Create Account" button at the bottom under New User.
You will be prompted to provide your email address, a secure password, and your Social Security number to create a profile. It is important to make sure your Social Security number is entered accurately, as making changes later can be very challenging. Your Social Security will be used to link your certification with NYSED and to initiate your fingerprinting and background check. An incorrect Social Security number can delay your job search and onboarding process.
Please note the following:
- Your email address will serve as your username. Please use the same email and password you used for your NYC Teaching Fellow Admissions Portal Account. It is particularly important that you use the same email so that we can track your progress through NYCTF Admission Portal.
- If you currently work for, or have previously worked for, NYCPS and have an existing Common Profile, please keep your login information secure and ensure that your personal information, including Social Security Number (SSN), and Date of Birth, are correct. Additionally, confirm that the email address linked to your Common Profile matches the email address used for your NYCTF application. If they match, we will be able to automatically retrieve your information. If they do not match, you MUST contact our online support center and inform us so we can manually locate you in the system.
- Please note that all communications and updates regarding your security clearance status will be sent to the email address associated with your Common Profile.
- If you are currently a student, we recommend that you do NOT use the email address associated with your university, school, or workplace unless you will have access to it for at least a year after you submit your application.
- Make sure that your email account is set up to accept messages from NYCPS by allowing emails from the following domains: @schools.nyc.gov and @nyc.teacherssupportnetwork.com. This will help to ensure that important messages do not end up in your spam or junk mail folder.
COMPLETING THE COMMON PROFILE:
The NYC Online Teacher Application is a multi-step process. After creating an account, applicants must complete their Common Profile. Below are the steps required to complete the Common Profile. The information you provide can be used to apply for various career paths with NYC Public Schools .
**Please note: It is crucial that you include your full date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY) in the common profile section. Although the application indicates that “DOB is optional,” this does NOT apply to Fellows. Your date of birth is required for your fingerprinting nomination. Without it, we will NOT be able to nominate you, and you will NOT be able to complete the fingerprinting and background clearance process.

1. ACCOUNT INFORMATION AND WORK ELIGIBILITY
This step requires you to provide basic contact information and answer a few questions about work eligibility. To be eligible to work for the NYCPS, you must meet citizenship and/or residency requirements. You must complete all parts of the eligibility question. If you answered “Yes” to the work authorization status, you must specify your exact work authorization status. Please note that if you do not disclose your work authorization status, will result in your application being disqualified.
If you are offered a position with NYCPS, you will need to present documentation verifying your identity and employment authorization as part of the hiring process. For more information, please click here.
2. EDUCATION
Teacher applicants must provide their education history for both high school and postsecondary education. Applicants holding advanced or multiple degrees must first enter undergraduate degree information before entering any additional advanced degrees.
3. EXPERIENCE AND REFERENCES
The professional experience information entered in this section can help determine the starting salary of teacher candidates after they are hired. For this reason, it is especially important that you accurately input your professional experience.
- Resume: You will need to upload a resume for the profile. Note that attachments cannot exceed 1 MB in size. We recommend uploading your resume as a PDF to maintain its formatting. As you progress through the NYC Online Teacher Application and work on your job search in the spring, you can update your resume when you apply for specific positions. At this time, there is no need to worry about making updates; you can upload any version of your resume that you have.
-
Paid Experience, Student Teaching, and Volunteer Experience: Enter information about all paid experience, any student teaching experience, and/or Volunteer Experience.
- As a Fellow, you may keep this section as brief as possible and DO NOT need to include all your experiences.
- References: You must provide at least one reference. References can be professional and/or personal. You can also update this later on when you are ready to apply for full-time teaching positions in the spring. If you do not have a reference from NYCPs, you may use the NYCTF Enrollment Team as a placeholder until you begin your Teaching Academy experience. Our address is 65 Court St, Brooklyn, NY 11201, and our phone number is 718.935.4000
4. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Applicants must provide demographic information and their borough preferences. Additional borough preferences can be shared later in the application.
